Sweet Green Smoothie

Now I love a good smoothie but usually only get a green smoothie if I feel the need for a bit of a detox after a little bit too much chocolate and treats over the weekend, not because I really enjoy the taste. However I have finally created a green smoothie recipe that I LOVE! I quite honestly have one of these almost everyday now and always look forward to it. So if your a bit of a sceptic when it comes to green smoothies then give this one a try, I'm sure you'll love it :)

Kale, Hawaiian Spirulina, Almond Butter, Coconut water and banana - they are all stars in this smoothie! Kale is a great source of plant calcium as well as iron, fibre and other vitamins and minerals. Almond butter adds a boost of protein to the smoothie, as well as skin loving vitamins such as vitamin E and Hawaiian Spirulina is full of trace minerals such as iron, magnesium, manganese as well as vitamins B12 and K.

SERVES: 1

Ingredients:

  • 1 big handful frozen or fresh kale leaves (stems removed)
  • 1 TBSP almond butter (my favourite is Poppy & Olive crunchy almond butter)
  • 1 tsp Hawaiian Spirulina
  • 1 cup coconut water
  • 3 ice cubes
  • Sprinkle of cinnamon

Place all ingredients in a high speed blender (e.g. vitamix, nutribullet, optimum) and blend until smooth, add more coconut water if you like your smoothie to have more of a juice like consistency. Pour into a glass and sprinkle with some sliced almonds, raw cacao nibs and goji berries. Enjoy!
