Basic Overnight Oats

These are my absolute favourite overnight oats. I have trailed a lot of recipes and although I do love my cacao oats, berry oats and other variations, I always find myself coming back to this simple yet delicious combination.

I use homemade almond milk for these oats, as I find it is much creamier and isn’t full of nasty additives and loaded with sugar which are found in most long life almond milks you can buy. Also fun fact: most store bought almond milk is only 10-15% almonds and the rest is water, sweeteners etc. Hence I like making my own.

This recipe is loaded with antioxidants from the blueberries and goji berries as well as being full of nutrients such as omega 3 fatty acids, vitamin E and zinc making it the perfect beauty breakfast. Loaded with fibre it will  give you a great start to the day. Another good thing about this recipe is that it can be made the night before so when you wake up in the morning breakfast is all ready to go!

  • 1/2 to 3/4  cup homemade almond milk (can also use cashew, brazil or macadamia nut milk)
  • 1/3 to 1/2 cup wholegrain oats (choose gluten free oats for a gluten free version)
  • 1 TBSP goji berries
  • 1 tsp linseeds (flaxseeds)
  • 1 tsp pumpkin seeds
  • 1 tsp sunflower seeds
  • 1 tsp chia seeds
  • 1/2 tsp cinnamon
  • 1/2 tsp maca powder

Place all ingredients in a bowl and mix together, then place bowl in the fridge to soak overnight. In the morning add desired toppings. I like to use fresh or frozen blueberries, dried figs and raw cacao nibs. You can also add things like medjool dates, almond butter, fresh banana, coconut yoghurt, coconut chips… the options are endless!
